Basketball Recap: Newark Catholic Takes Down West Jefferson in a Playoff Battle

Newark Catholic extended their postseason success on Tuesday against West Jefferson. They came out on top against the West Jefferson Roughriders by a score of 55-46. Winning may never get old, but the Green Wave sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Newark Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sophie Chard Peloquin, who almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. Chard Peloquin is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last four games she's played. Fini Kaiser was another key player, going 6-for-11 to rack up 15 points and three steals.

Newark Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Newark Catholic's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-7. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points over those games. As for West Jefferson, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-6.

Looking ahead, Newark Catholic will square off against Centerburg at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. Centerburg's defense has only allowed 28.3 points per game this season, so Newark Catholic's offense will have their work cut out for them. West Jefferson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
