Football Game Preview: Newberg Tigers vs. McMinnville Grizzlies

Newberg has gone 6-1 against McMinnville recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Tigers are taking a road trip to face off against the Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. Newberg will be strutting in after a victory while McMinnville will be coming in after a loss.

It was a proper cat-fight when Newberg faced off against Century on Friday. The Tigers took their matchup with ease, bagging a 41-6 win over the Jaguars. The victory continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Jaguars: they've now won three in a row.

A big part of Newberg's win came down to the chemistry between Parker Sellner and his top target Ethan Hein. Sellner threw for 191 yards and three TDs on only nine passes while Hein gained 121 total yards. The dominant performance also gave Sellner a new career-high in passer rating (100.5).

Newberg's run defense was locked in: Century could only muster 3.4 yards per carry. The Tigers didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 13.9.

Meanwhile, McMinnville lost 52-26 to Liberty on Friday.

McMinnville's defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Newberg, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Newberg skirted past McMinnville 24-21 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
