Baseball Game Preview: South El Monte Eagles vs. Garden Grove Argonauts

The South El Monte Eagles will head out to face off against the Garden Grove Argonauts at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. South El Monte's pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so Garden Grove's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Last Saturday, South El Monte beat Bell Gardens 10-5. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Lancers: they've now won four in a row.

Christian Ortega made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Armando Huizar was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Romero, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

South El Monte was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bell Gardens only posted a batting average of .138.

Meanwhile, Garden Grove never let their opponents score on Friday. They were the clear victor by an 11-0 margin over Westminster. Considering the Argonauts have won three matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

South El Monte's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.4 hits in those games compared to only 4.33 in the others. As for Garden Grove, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-5.
