Basketball Game Preview: Nottoway Cougars vs. Colonial Heights Colonials

After both having extra time off, the Nottoway Cougars and the Colonial Heights Colonials will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Nottoway is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.

Two weeks ago, Nottoway had to suffer through a 63-36 loss at the hands of Person. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 342nd in Virginia, while the Rockets are ranked 45th in North Carolina).

Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Colonial Heights against King William last Saturday as the squad secured a 75-46 victory.

Nottoway better keep an eye on Cameron Hartsoe. He was instrumental in Colonial Heights' win, dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten boards. That's the most boards Hartsoe has posted since back in February of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bret Lipscomb, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points.

Colonial Heights' win bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Nottoway, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

Things could have been worse for Nottoway, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 67-50 loss to Colonial Heights in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can Nottoway avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
