Basketball Recap: Belleville West Comes Up Short

Belleville West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 59-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Columbia Eagles. The Maroons were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

It was another big night for Sam Donald, who posted 24 points for Columbia. Eddie Smajic was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Belleville West's loss dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Columbia, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.

Belleville West will host Mascoutah at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Columbia, they will face off against O'Fallon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
