Baseball Game Preview: Genoa Area Comets vs. Oak Harbor Rockets

The Genoa Area Comets will face off against the Oak Harbor Rockets at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Genoa Area's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three matches, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Genoa Area took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Start a 2-0 shutout. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Comets as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Oak Harbor had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Redmen. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won three contests by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Cooper Schultz, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Alex Rife was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Oak Harbor always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .519. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Oak Harbor pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Genoa Area, their win bumped their record up to 2-5.

Genoa Area came up short against Oak Harbor in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, falling 8-3. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
