Softball Recap: South Newton Makes It Five in a Row at Home

South Newton proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by nine) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Twin Lakes Indians 9-8. While the Rebels didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Hannah Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and six unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kimber Cruz, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Kayleigh Burton, who went 2-for-3 with two runs.

South Newton's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Twin Lakes, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.

Looking ahead, South Newton will look to defend their home field on Friday against North White at 4:30 p.m. As for Twin Lakes, they will take on Rochester at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Indians' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Zebras have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season.
