Baseball Recap: California's Win Ends Three-Game Losing Streak on the Road

California had lost three games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 8-7 on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They beat the Monte Vista Mustangs by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 3-2. The game was the first time the Grizzlies have beaten the Mustangs on their field since May 7, 2021.

Ryken Redondo looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. California is 3-1 when Redondo allows two or fewer earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, California's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Johnny Edwards, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Nick Hubbard was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Monte Vista, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last ten matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-15 record this season. Mustangs fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against California since on Friday.

On Monte Vista's side, they got a good showing from Ethan Smith, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Furthermore, Smith didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March.

At the plate, Zane Worth was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. That RBI was his first of the season.
