Softball Recap: Rustburg Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Rustburg entered their contest against Halifax County on Monday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Red Devils fell just short of the Comets by a score of 4-3. The Red Devils were not able to make up for their defeat to the Comets from their previous meeting back in April of 2025.

Laila Bigham spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Skylar Tyree made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times she's played.

Rustburg's loss dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Halifax County, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-3.

Coming up, Rustburg will challenge Glass at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Halifax County, they will face off against Magna Vista at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Comets 2.7, the Warriors 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
