Basketball Game Preview: Highline Pirates vs. Franklin Pierce Cardinals

Highline hasn't had much luck against Franklin Pierce recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Highline Pirates will welcome the Franklin Pierce Cardinals at 2:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, Highline was able to grind out a solid win over Evergreen, taking the game 61-51. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

It was another big night for Corey Crosby, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and 24 boards. His evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jai'Lyn Chavers, who went 7 for 17 en route to 18 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Highline smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, Franklin Pierce came tearing into Friday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Trojans by a score of 63-53.

Franklin Pierce pushed their record up to 10-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.4 points per game. As for Highline, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 6-7.

Highline might still be hurting after the 70-49 defeat they got from Franklin Pierce in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Highline avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
