Baseball Recap: Northeastern Comes Up Short

Northeastern had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-5 to make it four. They lost 10-2 to the First Flight Nighthawks. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Nighthawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-5 on Tuesday.

Ian James made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and earned two runs and three stolen bases.

As for First Flight, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-4. The result was nothing new for the Nighthawks, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

On First Flight's side, they got a great performance from Ben LaVier as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 15 over six innings pitched. Those 15 strikeouts gave LaVier a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Dillon Francis was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. Lance Jones also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Coming up, Northeastern is taking a road trip to face off against Gates County at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Barons have averaged an impressive 8.4 runs per game this season. As for First Flight, they will square off against Nash Central at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Nighthawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season.
