Preview: Episcopal Knights vs. Newman Greenies

The Episcopal Knights will take on the Newman Greenies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Episcopal knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Newman likes a good challenge.

Episcopal had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They were the clear victor by a 38-14 margin over Bunkie. Episcopal might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won seven matches by 24 points or more this season.

Braeden George was a one-man wrecking crew for Episcopal as he rushed for 207 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Reid Chauvin, who gained 157 total yards.

Newman never got on the board in their matchup on November 3rd, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against St. Thomas Aquinas last Friday. They had just enough and edged the Falcons out 32-30. Given Newman's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked 33rd, while St. Thomas Aquinas is ranked 153rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Episcopal's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Newman, they pushed their record up to 9-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home.

Episcopal was taken down by Newman 37-6 in their previous meeting back in November of 2021. Thankfully for Episcopal, Arch Manning (who threw for 164 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
