Softball Game Preview: Yucca Valley Trojans vs. Indio Rajahs

Yucca Valley hasn't had much luck against Indio recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Trojans will look to defend their home field against the Rajahs at 3:30 p.m. Yucca Valley has given up an average of 7.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Yucca Valley had been on a five-game streak of scoring at least ten runs, but Indio put an end to it on Monday. The Trojans lost 15-1 to the Rajahs.

For Indio's part, Alyssa Perez made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Perez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Audra Higgins and Carmen Gordillo did most of the damage at the plate: Higgins went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Gordillo went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI Gordillo has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Clover Cordova, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

The loss snapped Indio's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-10 record. As for Yucca Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6-1.
