Football Recap: Newport Takes a Loss

Newport played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Salem, falling 48-12. Newport was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-0.

Despite the loss, Newport had strong showings from Trevion Greer, who rushed for 63 yards and one score, and Dayrin Braxton, who picked up 62 receiving yards and one touchdown. Greer really tore up the turf during one magnificent 78-yard run.

Having lost for the first time this season, Newport fell to 2-1. As for Salem, the win (which was their 12th in a row dating back to last season) raised their record to 3-0.

Newport and Salem will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next contests. The next time the Greyhounds see the field they'll take on Piggott at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th. As for Salem, their break will end when they face Melbourne at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th.
