Preview: Wheatmore Warriors vs. Trinity Bulldogs
Wheatmore is 2-8 against Trinity since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Wheatmore Warriors will head out on the road to face off against the Trinity Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. Wheatmore is hoping to put an end to a ten-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Last Friday, Wheatmore lost to Randleman on the road by a decisive 50-36 margin. Wheatmore has not had much luck with Randleman recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Robert Nyamongo, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Johnathan Kelly, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Trinity had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They walked away with a 69-56 win over Southwestern Randolph. Given Trinity's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while Southwestern Randolph is ranked 568th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wheatmore's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Trinity, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.
Wheatmore took a serious blow against Trinity in their previous matchup back in January, falling 66-37. Can Wheatmore avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
