Volleyball Recap: Cordova Falls Short Against Ranked Petersburg

Cordova faced Petersburg in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Wolverines fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 2-1. The Wolverines were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vikings earlier this season, when they won 1-0.

Victoria Nothstine paced Cordova's offense, picking up nine kills. Nothstine got some help from Willow Tiedeman and her ten assists. Nothstine also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Avery Reynolds, each putting up two.

Cordova's defeat dropped their record down to 17-7. As for Petersburg, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-3.

Cordova will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Birchwood Christian at 6:30 p.m. on the 27th. As for Petersburg, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 defeat against Unalaska on the 11th.
