Having just played yesterday, the Broadwater Academy Vikings will get right back to it and host the Portsmouth Christian Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Broadwater Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Portsmouth Christian will be coming in after a defeat.
Having struggled with three losses in a row, Broadwater Academy turned things around against Greenbrier Christian Academy on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Gators, sneaking past 34-31.
Broadwater Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Tatum Watson, who posted eight points. Another player making a difference was Kacey Ford, who scored 14 points.
Broadwater Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in December of 2023.
Meanwhile, Portsmouth Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They fell 36-24 to Atlantic Shores Christian.
Broadwater Academy will need focus on slowing down Cloee Comberiati, one of several Portsmouth Christian players who made an impact when they last played. She dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 boards. Comberiati is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down ten or more in the last three games she's played.
Portsmouth Christian's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Broadwater Academy, their win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-3.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Broadwater Academy has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 24.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Portsmouth Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 36.9 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Broadwater Academy didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Portsmouth Christian in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 47-42 victory.
