Baseball Recap: Saugus Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Saugus extended their winning streak to three on Friday, bumping them up to 7-5. Everything went their way against the Canyon Cowboys as they made off with a 10-3 win. Considering the Centurions have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Saugus got a great performance from Chase Kline as he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Kline has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Matt Long was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. He has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times he's played. Josh Murphy also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Saugus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2025.

As for Canyon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-6 record this season. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly seven runs.

On Canyon's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andrae Surgick, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Looking ahead, Saugus will challenge Oaks Christian at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Lions' pitching crew has only allowed 2.6 runs per game this season, so the Centurions' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Canyon, they are taking a road trip to take on Oak Park at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
