Baseball Recap: Charleston Comes Up Short

Champaign Central hit Charleston with a five-run sixth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Trojans came up short against the Maroons, falling 8-1. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Maroons apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Charleston dropped their record down to 8-17 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home. As for Champaign Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-11-1 record this season.

Charleston and Champaign Central could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Trojans will take on Taylorville at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (276 vs. 102). Meanwhile, Champaign Central (ranked 113th) will meet East Peoria (ranked 31st) at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
