Softball Recap: Monterey Trail Comes Up Short

Monterey Trail was the 14-5 winner over Cosumnes Oaks when they last played one another back in March of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Mustangs fell just short of the Wolfpack by a score of 6-5 on Wednesday.

Aniyah Whipper was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Aliyah Ewing, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Monterey Trail dropped their record down to 7-9 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Cosumnes Oaks, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Looking ahead, Monterey Trail will look to defend their home field on Friday against Laguna Creek at 4:00 p.m. The Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.18 runs per game on average), something the Mustangs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cosumnes Oaks, they will venture away from home to take on Franklin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
