Basketball Recap: Woodland Comes Up Short

Woodland's tournament run continued when they took on Hoke County on Saturday. The Woodland Wolverines fell 50-43 to the Hoke County Bucks. The Wolverines have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Woodland still got an impressive performance from JaKease Salley, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. Salley has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 15 times he's played. Dwayne Blanden was another key player, putting up five points.

Hoke County got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Machai Brown out in front who went 5 of 11 on his way to 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of DeKeith Horne, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

Woodland's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Hoke County, their record is now 6-7.

Woodland wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 74-47 defeat against Summerville on the 2nd. As for Hoke County, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Southern Lee at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th. One thing working in Southern Lee's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
