Softball Game Preview: Providence Athletic Club Panthers vs. Greenville H Hurricanes

The Providence Athletic Club Panthers will take on the Greenville H Hurricanes at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Greenville H will be up against a hot Providence Athletic Club squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Providence Athletic Club's pitcher stepped up to hand Wagener-Salley a 9-0 shutout on Thursday.

Kaylin Otey made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Providence Athletic Club let Abigail Gibbs and Atalie Gauntt run wild. Gibbs went 1-for-2 with one home run and one stolen base, while Gauntt went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that Gibbs launched this season. Kirsten Thomas was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Providence Athletic Club lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their home run total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Greenville H). Everything went their way against Southside on Wednesday as Greenville H made off with a 28-0 victory. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Providence Athletic Club's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9 runs. As for Greenville H, their win ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-2.
