Softball Recap: Mcallen's Luck Changes for the Better on Monday

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, McAllen was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They blew past the McAllen Memorial Mustangs 25-9. That 16 run margin sets a new team best for the Bulldogs this season.

Eliana Villanueva made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Villanueva was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-4. Those home runs were her first of the season.

In other batting news, McAllen let Giada Farias and Leah Sorensen run wild. Farias scored five runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4, while Sorensen got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, five RBI, and one stolen base. Those five runs gave Sorensen a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Koraima Izaguirre, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 3-for-5.

McAllen was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .583. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

With the win, McAllen broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-6. As for McAllen Memorial, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 1-9.

McAllen didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 15-0 victory against La Joya on the 19th. As for McAllen Memorial, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 14-1 defeat against Sharyland on the 19th.
