Baseball Recap: Alta Takes a Loss

Alta extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-4. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Timpanogos Timberwolves. If the Hawks were looking for revenge after losing 5-0 to the Timberwolves when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Alta handed starting duties to Tatum Johnson, who gave a strong showing despite the result: he struck out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. That one hit allowed gave Johnson a new career-low.

On the hitting side, McCoy Johnson made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one home run the last three times he's played. Abel Velador also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

As for Timpanogos, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games.

On Timpanogos' side, Corbin Hardy made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk). Hardy was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Alta is taking a road trip to face off against Maple Mountain at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Golden Eagles will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last. As for Timpanogos, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 12-4 victory against Bear River on the 18th.
