Football Recap: Fowler Skates Past Sangre De Cristo with Ease

Fowler's game two weeks ago was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They breezed past the Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds to the tune of 66-22. The Grizzlies have beaten the Thunderbirds the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Thunderbirds has come to flipping the script.

Fowler was led to victory by Brock True and Bronson Damgaard. True rushed for 197 yards and three scores on only six carries, while Damgaard rushed for 201 yards and four TDs on only 11 carries. Those 201 rushing yards gave Damgaard a new career-high. Another rusher making a difference was Daniel Adams, who rushed for 66 yards and one touchdown.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Fowler was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 469 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Fowler didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Demetrius Alvarez led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. True got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Despite the loss, Sangre de Cristo still got an impressive performance from Kolby Shellabarger, who rushed for 163 yards and a pair of scores on only 11 carries, and also picked up 48 receiving yards. The Thunderbirds also got a significant boost from Deklin Beiriger, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 103 yards.

Fowler's record now sits at 2-3. As for Sangre de Cristo, they moved to 4-2 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Fowler wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 58-6 win against Custer County on the 10th. As for Sangre de Cristo, they have also already played their next matchup, a 44-36 defeat against Hoehne on the 11th.
