Peru has gone 8-2 against Beekmantown recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Nighthawks will welcome the Eagles at 4:30 p.m. Peru is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Two weeks ago, Peru earned a 7-3 win over Saranac Lake. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Nighthawks.
Donnie Mitchell was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Gabe Moore, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Meanwhile, it's playoff time, and Beekmantown had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on Plattsburgh with a sharp 13-4 victory on Thursday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by seven runs or more this season.
Steven Bronson made a big impact no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 14 over six innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Beekmantown's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Cal Anderson and Parker Broughton did most of the damage at the plate: Anderson went 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI, while Broughton got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Anderson has become a key player for Beekmantown: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-7 otherwise. Logan Estes was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Beekmantown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Beekmantown has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Peru, their victory bumped their record up to 14-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Peru has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Beekmantown struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Peru's way against Beekmantown when the teams last played back in April, as Peru made off with a 10-3 win. Do the Nighthawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
