Baseball Recap: Paetow Comes Up Short

Paetow and Katy pushed the score to 10-9 the last time they played Katy, but on Friday defenses reigned supreme. The Panthers fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 2-0. The shutout was out of character for the Panthers seeing as the last time the team failed to score was back in February.

Victor Salazar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit and racked up six Ks. He has become a key player for Paetow: the team is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 6-10-1 otherwise.

This is the second loss in a row for Paetow and nudges their season record down to 10-12-1. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only 1.5 runs. As for Katy, their victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-6.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Paetow will face off against rival Katy Taylor at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Katy is set to square off against their familiar foe Tompkins at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
