Baseball Recap: Pine Crest Starts Season with Win on the Road

Pine Crest had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They were the clear victor by a 23-6 margin over the Somerset Academy - Canyons Cougars. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won three in a row.

Troy Ceritelli was a standout: he scored five runs and stole three bases while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Stephen Gladding, who went 3-for-5 with six RBI, one run, and one double.

Pine Crest kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Somerset Academy - Canyons only hit eight hits.

Somerset Academy - Canyons' loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers take on the Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Somerset Academy - Canyons, they will take on Spanish River at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
