Basketball Game Preview: Assumption Royals vs. Marathon Red Raiders

Assumption hasn't had much luck against Marathon recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Assumption Royals will venture away from home to square off against the Marathon Red Raiders at 7:15 p.m. Assumption will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Assumption will bounce into Monday's contest after beating Auburndale, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Assumption came out on top against Auburndale by a score of 48-40 on Friday. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Royals' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 236th, while the Apaches are ranked tenth).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Marathon). They were the clear victor by a 67-44 margin over Newman on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Assumption's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-3. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.3 points per game. As for Marathon, the win made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 3-3.

Assumption was dealt a bruising 76-27 defeat at the hands of Marathon in their previous meeting back in February. Can Assumption avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
