Basketball Game Preview: Gatewood Gators vs. John Hancock Academy Rebels

Gatewood has gone a perfect 10-0 against John Hancock Academy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Gators will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rebels at 5:30 p.m. Gatewood is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

While Gatewood didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They breezed past Georgia Military College to the tune of 55-15 on Saturday. The Gators have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 27 points or more this season.

Gatewood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lily Huskins led the charge by putting up 11 points. Huskins continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Lauren Paxson, who posted nine points and three steals.

Meanwhile, John Hancock Academy played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 44-17 loss at the hands of Fullington Academy. The defeat continues a trend for the Rebels in their meetings with the Trojans: they've now lost nine in a row.

Gatewood's victory bumped their record up to 6-0. As for John Hancock Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.

Everything came up roses for Gatewood against John Hancock Academy in their previous matchup back in November, as the team secured a 45-18 win. Will the Gators repeat their success, or do the Rebels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
