Softball Recap: Manteo Wins Going Away Against Cape Hatteras

Manteo won the last time they faced Cape Hatteras and things went their way on Thursday too. The Redskins put the hurt on the Hurricanes with a sharp 15-3 win. The Redskins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five games by 11 runs or more this season.

Bailey Dickerson and Calleigh Bush made a splash no matter where they played. Throwing, Dickerson tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Bush tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Dickerson has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Dickerson scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Bush scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. That's the most runs Bush has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Bella Huntingford was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Kayla Austin, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2.

Manteo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cape Hatteras only posted an OBP of .318.

Manteo has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Cape Hatteras, they dropped their record down to 2-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Manteo will welcome Pasquotank County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.11 runs per game on average), something the Redskins will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Cape Hatteras, they will head out on the road to face off against Bear Grass Charter at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
