Softball Recap: Polk County's Losing Streak Snapped at Three Games

Polk County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Red Bank, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Polk County Wildcats' pitcher stepped up to hand the Red Bank Lions a 9-0 shutout on Friday. With that victory, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Mallie Evans was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in earned runs (zero). She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kendall Coons was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in hits. Brooke Pike was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Polk County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The win snapped Polk County's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 2-4 record. As for Red Bank, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Looking ahead, Polk County will host Roane County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Red Bank, they will head out to challenge Bradley Central at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
