Baseball Recap: Cairo-Durham Comes Up Short

Cairo-Durham dropped their record down to 4-2 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Chatham Panthers, falling 18-0. The match marked the first time this season in which the Mustangs were not able to get on the board.

Cairo-Durham saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jacob Young, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double marked the first that Young has hit this season.

As for Chatham, the win keeps they at an undefeated 4-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games.

On Chatham's side, Hunter Kelly was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Kelly posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Logan Smalley was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Thomas Pierro, who went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Cairo-Durham has already played their next game, a 7-0 loss against Taconic Hills on the 19th. As for Chatham, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-7 defeat against Ichabod Crane on the 16th.
