Volleyball Recap: Somerset Academy South Homestead Starts Season with Victory at Home

Somerset Academy South Homestead gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Wednesday. They put the hurt on the Keys Gate Knights with a sharp 3-0 victory. The Hurricanes haven't had any issues with the Knights recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-11, 25-14, 25-21.

Somerset Academy South Homestead was led to victory by Melanie Aguirre and Samantha Sacramento. Aguirre had five digs and four aces, while Sacramento had seven digs and two aces.

They weren't the only good server: Somerset Academy South Homestead was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 20 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in September of 2024.

Keys Gate's loss was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, Somerset Academy South Homestead will look to defend their home court on Friday against Academy for Innovative Education at 5:30 p.m. As for Keys Gate, they will venture away from home to challenge Sports Leadership & Management at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
