Softball Recap: Bellevue Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Highlands, Bellevue was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Newport Wildcats a 24-0 shutout. The Tigers have beaten the Wildcats the last eight times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wildcats has come to flipping the script.

Paulina Long made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Long was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Ginny Meece was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Zariah Bedford was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI and one run.

Bellevue was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .435. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Bellevue's record now sits at 4-6. As for Newport, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 0-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bellevue will take on Augusta at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Newport, they will square off against Dayton at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats are facing the Greendevils at the right time seeing as the Greendevils are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
