Baseball Recap: Chen Chargers vs. Covenant Life Cougars
While Chen didn't have the best season last year (they finished 1-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with an 11-7 win over the Covenant Life Cougars on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Chargers.
Tanner Viernes was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

In other batting news, Chen let Liam Conroy and Matthew Buba run wild. Conroy went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Buba went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Conroy a new career-high. Collin Van Dyken also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Chen's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Covenant Life, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Chen will head out to square off against Chapelgate Christian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Covenant Life, they will venture away from home to challenge Rockbridge Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
