League recap: Halimon breaks off league-leading run for Allatoona

AAAAA Region 5 recap September 24, 2013

Russell Halimon of Allatoona ran for the longest rushing play in AAAAA Region 5 this season against Lithia Springs last week. Halimon scampered for 67 yards on the play and finished with 97 on the day as his team bested the Lions.

Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Allatoona beat Lithia Springs 49-0,. The win marks fourth in a row for the Gary Varner's team.

Mac Seagle was the best receiver in the league this week as North Paulding topped Hiram. Seagle racked up 3 receptions for 79 yards. Kayden Bishop helped North Paulding's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 30 yards.

Corn Collins was the best running back in AAAAA Region 5 this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 170 yards as the Wolfpack defeated the Hornets. Teammate Chase Noonan added to the ground attack by rushing for 14 yards.

Chandler Burks threw for 216 yards and 2 touchdowns. He was 12-19 with 0 interception.

Burks put up the best numbers in passing as South Paulding beat Woodland. Burks' favorite target this week was Jae Bowen, who caught 4 passes for 68 yards.

Adam Culpepper made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Spartans topped the Wildcats. He.

The leading receiver in the league this season is Bishop. The North Paulding star has 18 catches for 311 yards.

The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place South Paulding takes on second place Allatoona. Last week, South Paulding bested Woodland, while the Buccaneers defeated Nathan Hand's team.

The league will see a high scoring game when Allatoona and Ed Koester's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Buccaneers comes in having scored 183 this season, while the Spartans have scored 146. Allatoona scored 49 points last week as it topped the Lions.

Villa Rica made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,176 from 5,665. The improvement came about via a 21-17 victory over Paulding County last week.
