Baseball Recap: Lancaster Mennonite Takes a Loss

Lancaster Mennonite extended their losing streak to six on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 3-9 in the process. They came up short against the Lancaster Catholic Crusaders, falling 7-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Crusaders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 two weeks ago.

As for Lancaster Catholic, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games.

For Lancaster Catholic's part, Zach Zuber made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Zuber has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Lancaster Catholic's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Ty George was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one double. Lancaster Catholic is undefeated when George posts two or more runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Seamus Conner was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Lancaster Mennonite has already played their next game (against Conestoga Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Lancaster Catholic, they will square off against Northern Lebanon at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
