Basketball Recap: Sublette Takes a Loss

Sublette was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 38th straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 53-33 to the Southwestern Heights Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 70-12 two weeks ago.

Despite the defeat, Sublette saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Exayli Hernandez posted eight points and four steals. The dominant performance gave Hernandez a new career-high in points.

Leading Southwestern Heights to victory were Juanita Puentes and Layla Pearl Kisner. Puentes went 5-for-11 to rack up 15 points and six steals, while Pearl Kisner had 14 points along with five assists and five steals. Pearl Kisner is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 22 games she's played dating back to last season. Melanie Cox also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Sublette's loss dropped their record down to 0-17. As for Southwestern Heights, their win bumped their record up to 15-3.

Sublette wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 50-32 defeat against Moscow on the 18th. As for Southwestern Heights, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-41 loss against South Gray on the 14th.
