Basketball Recap: McAllen Bulldogs vs. Vela Sabercats

It was a good run, but the McAllen Bulldogs unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Tuesday. They received a tough blow as they fell 56-42 to Vela. McAllen has not had much luck with the Sabercats recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

McAllen lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jackson Ramirez, who scored 12 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of D'aundre Canada, who scored ten points along with six rebounds.

Axel Garza was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds for Vela. Garza is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan Bustamante, who scored 11 points along with three steals.

McAllen's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 22-10. As for Vela, their victory was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 28-5.

McAllen will take on the Rattlers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Sharyland will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1008th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 343rd). As for Vela, they will head out on the road to take on the Diamondbacks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pioneer focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.
