Baseball Game Preview: Rockford Rockets vs. Big Lake Hornets

The Rockford Rockets will head out on the road to challenge the Big Lake Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Rockford 1.8, Big Lake 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

While Rockford's victory against Watertown-Mayer wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rockets had just enough and edged out the Royals 6-4. The win continues a trend for the Rockets in their matchups with the Royals: they've now won seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Big Lake hadn't done well against Princeton recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Hornets' pitchers stepped up to hand the Tigers a 2-0 shutout. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hornets.

Caleb Martin was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.

Rockford's victory was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Big Lake, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
