Basketball Recap: Vandalia Takes a Loss

Vandalia fought the good fight in their overtime game against Southwestern on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Southwestern Piasa Birds by a score of 51-49. The Vandals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Piasa Birds apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Southwestern's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ian Brantley, who went 7 of 14 to rack up 20 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. What's more, Brantley also posted a 57% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Connor Wood, who went 6 for 8 en route to 15 points.

Vandalia's defeat dropped their record down to 11-15. As for Southwestern, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-11.

Looking ahead, Vandalia will welcome Litchfield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southwestern, they will head out to square off against Staunton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
