Baseball Recap: Sylva Bay Academy Drops Season-High Score on Laurel Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sylva Bay Academy). They were the clear victor by a 15-0 margin over the Laurel Christian Lions on Thursday. The Saints haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Lane Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Levi West and Micah Odom did most of the damage at the plate: West went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Odom scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-3. Sylva Bay Academy is undefeated when Odom posts two or more runs, but 1-2 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Gage Kennedy, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Sylva Bay Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Sylva Bay Academy's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Laurel Christian, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sylva Bay Academy will venture away from home to challenge Enterprise at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Enterprise is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season. Laurel Christian will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Newton County Academy at 7:00 p.m. on March 25th.
