Baseball Game Preview: Savio Eagles vs. St. Andrew's Highlanders

The Savio Eagles are headed away from home for the first time to face off against the St. Andrew's Highlanders on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Savio made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Brentwood Christian, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Savio didn't even let Brentwood Christian on the board back in February, marking Savio's second-straight 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won three games by eight runs or more so far this season.

Dj Johnson was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Kelemen, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

While St. Andrew's didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They put the hurt on Bastrop with a sharp 15-5 win on Saturday. The victory was familiar territory for the Highlanders, who have now won four contests in a row.

Savio's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for St. Andrew's, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.

Savio took their win against St. Andrew's in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 13-3. Will Savio repeat their success, or does St. Andrew's have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
