Baseball Recap: Marquez Takes a Loss

Marquez lost against Maywood CES back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Gladiators fell just short of the Wolfpack by a score of 2-1. The Gladiators have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ernesto Gonzalez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Marquez saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jason Gutierrez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Gutierrez has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

Marquez's defeat dropped their record down to 16-8. As for Maywood CES, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-8 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Maywood CES beat Marquez by a score of 11-1 on Thursday.
