Basketball Recap: Joshua Daniel Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Beach

After losing to Beach the last time they met, Brunswick decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Brunswick Pirates rang in the new year with a 65-55 victory over the Beach Bulldogs on Saturday. Given the Pirates' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 37th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 191st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brunswick's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joshua Daniel led the charge by going 8 of 19 on his way to 25 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Daniel a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Heze Kent, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 22 rebounds.

Brunswick smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

When it comes to explaining why Beach lost, don't look at Jayden Newton. Despite the final result, he went 7 of 13 on his way to 20 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Chandler Reid, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten boards.

Brunswick's record is now 12-1. As for Beach, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Brunswick will challenge Glynn Academy at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Beach, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Calvary Day at 7:30 p.m. Beach is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.4 points per game this season.
