Baseball Recap: Hoxie Starts Season with Win at Home

Hoxie gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Augusta Red Devils a 15-0 shutout. The victory was some much needed relief for the Mustangs as it spelled an end to their 17-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Logan Light made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (one). He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Hoxie got a massive performance out of Mack Slaughter, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave Slaughter a new career-high in runs. PJ Forehand was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing Two bases. while going 1-for-2.

Hoxie always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .704. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Augusta only posted an OBP of .273.

Coming up, Hoxie will face off against Walnut Ridge at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Augusta, they will square off against White County Central at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
