Baseball Game Preview: Lanier Voks vs. Seguin Matadors

The Lanier Voks will venture away from home to square off against the Seguin Matadors at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lanier has now lost 11 straight, leaving the team hunting for their first win since February 27.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Lanier's offense. They lost 11-0 to Burbank on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Seguin never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over Sam Houston. Considering the Matadors have won nine matches by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Ethan Tipple was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with four runs and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Jordan Herrera looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Ian Moreno, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and two doubles. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brandon Sadler, who went 2-for-4 with four runs and one double.

Seguin kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive games.

Seguin is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 16 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Lanier, their loss dropped their record down to 1-13-1.

Lanier might still be hurting after the 18-0 defeat they got from Seguin in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Voks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
