Santa Fe Trail waltzed into their contest on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Ottawa Cyclones. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Chargers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Gretchen Huizenga was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Santa Fe Trail let Peyton Ganger and Sydnee Sleichter run wild. Ganger went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Sleichter went 2-for-5 with three runs and two doubles. That's the most doubles Sleichter has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kendall Baird, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.

Santa Fe Trail was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .324 or higher in six consecutive matches.

Santa Fe Trail's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Ottawa, they moved to 7-2 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Santa Fe Trail beat the Cyclones by a score of 12-9 later that day.
