Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Hawley walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Bangs Dragons on Thursday as they made off with a 9-1 victory. Considering the Bearcats have won seven matches by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Alek Southerland made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Braylen Williams was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Jesse Nieto, who went 3-for-4 with two runs.

Hawley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bangs only posted an OBP of .367.

Hawley has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Bangs, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 18-9.

Hawley will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Dragons: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
